San Diego Day 2

Mark and I were up and off to the conference at 7. We had a great breakfast of eggs, French toast, sausage, bacon, various pastries, and other great foods. The keynote speaker was from the IAFF (Firefighters Union) and presented a federal study that was looking for several fire departments that would be willing to share demographic data for a future response aid program that they are writing. I will be submitting Independence hopefully take part in the study.

We then took 3 other programming classes to help us with queries and report writing. The day ended up with a regional meeting that involved several neighboring states that are included in our area. We looked at issues with the software, new items that are in production, and got answers to some of our questions involving our current systems.

Meanwhile, the girls had some adventures of their own…

This morning, no sooner than when I shut the door to our room, Shelly jumped off Cathy’s bed and possibly broke her right foot. She was unable to shake off the pain, and the girls ended up calling for an ambulance to take her to the hospital. Since she works for AMR, she was able to call directly to their dispatch center here and arrange for a ride. The hotel staff was very accommodating and helpful thru all this. The X-rays were inconclusive, and Shelly will have to follow up when we get back to Ohio next week. After spending the morning in the emergency room, the girls came back and rested at the hotel while waiting for us.

After the conference wrapped up today, we all were able to get a shuttle ride to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. The food was awesome as usual, and we all managed to save room for some dessert.

Now we are having some downtime at the hotel, and Mark and I will be off to more classes tomorrow.
