From the Archives...

Featured tonight is my Father's first truck, pictured in the fall of 1973.  In the pic is my Dad, Me (6yrs), Jack (3yrs), and Jennifer (1yr).  Here is info quoted by my Dad regarding the vehicle...

This was the first pickup truck I owned. I bought it in the fall of 1973 after we moved out to our home on route 3. It was a 1950 Ford 3/4 ton, 2 wheel drive. It had a 1953 Mercury flat head V8 engine and a 3 speed manual transmission, with shift on the floor. I paid $150.00 for it. The floor of the truck box was made of wood and it was rotted out, so I rebuilt it using wood from one of the small outbuildings on our property. The gas tank never leaked or got rusty because it was in the truck cab behind the seat, the tank always looked brand new. This was common in trucks of that vintage, in later years the gas tanks were moved to the underside of trucks because of the fire hazard of having a gas tank inside a truck cab. Everything worked on this truck if it wasn't raining or snowing. If it rained or snowed the windshield wipers would lock up, I spent many hours working on the wiper mechanism and I could get them to work most of the time, but not all the time.
