From the Archives...

This picture was from Cathy's Mom, possibly taken sometime in 1976.  Here is her explanation of the pic...

After we moved to Cleveland, We took the kids up to visit Dad's mom. The man on the left is Uncle Chester (we called him Chay). the two next adults are Aunt Ruth and Uncle Bill Krause, the woman on the right is Grandma Cole. The children are Cathy and Jim. The picture was taken in front of a restaurant where we went out to dinner. The two men are Grandma Coles brothers. Jim had cousins by another uncle, but their father died and their mother remarried. The cousins were relatively distant and we did not know each other very well. Dad's mother was not well and shortly after this visit she ended up in a nursing home. We went up to clean out her apartment and visited her in the nursing home. She died in 1980. There was one other uncle I never met.

Uncle Chay was a little slow- he had meningitus as a child, but lived alone and did very well - working and taking care of himself. I never met another uncle. He was the " black sheep" of the family and had the good grace to die at the family homestead instead of on the street or in jail. The police loved him - he was a good cook. Uncle Bill and Aunt Ruth were married kind of late. She had children and grand- children by a first marriage. Dad had very few relatives- but these three were close. Uncle Bill was a substitute father after Dad's father died. ( he was only 6 at the time).

That's Matt in the picture. I remember that Matt and I went with mom. Jim was not there. It may have been the year he was in Pa for the summer.
