Yesterday, we were called out to help with a Dignitary Protection Detail for the McCain/Palin rally near Cleveland.
There were about 10,000 tickets given out, but due to the forecast for rain, the rally was moved to inside the civic center. This was a problem because the civic center held about 4,000 people. It was decided for the Senator and Governor to do separate speeches both inside and outside for all the attendees.
I was put on "roving" detail, in other words, help out outside wherever needed. This ended up being beneficial as I was eventually found at stage left for the outdoor portion of the day. Unfortunately, all I had was my point and shoot (wouldn't have looked good carrying around a D200), so even tho I was close to the candidates, my camera wasn't able to take very good pics due to it getting to be dark outside.
It was a long, but interesting day with some protesters, basic crowd control, and talking with other members of the detail including transit police, secret service, homeland security, etc. My feet ached as we were out there from 1100 till almost 8pm after they left.

That is a GREAT picture of you, Jim! It reminds me of the pictures of a young Papa in his trooper uniform.
Thank you, Heather - that is an awesome compliment!!!
Jim
Wow Jim, you look all... grown up and... tough. It sounds like a nightmare (the whole 4,000 when you have 10,000), thanks for doing your part :0). Hope you gave your feet recover soon.
